Over 25 schools have run Parent Gym. Here are the views from the school staff:
Headteacher of Tower Bridge Primary School, Southwark
"Parent Gym has been a great opportunity to move towards achieving our vision of families who are confident in their abilities. It’s an unthreatening way of tackling issues which often spill over into school life – it’s not the social services, it’s not the police, it’s not the debt collectors. 15% of our families have now completed the course – we hope that at least 80% will end up completing it."
Headteacher of St Stephen's Primary School, Westminster
"It’s about saying to parents, you don’t just send your children to our school and hand them over and expect us to do everything. We work in partnership: you have a role to play. I thoroughly recommend it to all other Headteachers, and we hope that it continues."
Parent Support Advisor, St James Primary School, Southwark
"Parent Gym is effective for parents from all walks of life, even when we as parents think we are doing the best for and by our children there are always more to learn - techniques that are new and fresh, simple but effective. Parents gave positive feedback about Parent Gym - they looked at and questioned some of the methods they used to in all aspects of bring up their children, and went away and tried something new with their children: for instance listening to their child more and giving eye contact."
