The Parent Gym class I attended was great fun, but it also made me think a lot. As a parent, I know how hard it can be to know how best to support and nurture your child, and how lonely and isolating being a parent can be at times. That is why programmes like Parent Gym are so valuable, as not only do they impart evidence-based knowledge and techniques through the coaches, but they are also a great way of meeting, learning from, and sharing your own experience with other parents.

Claire Katzenellenbogen, director of Parent Gym, which runs parenting courses, emphasises the importance of developing critical thinking: “The biggest gift we can give our children is to help them think critically about what it all means. That the beautiful photos they see on Instagram might look real, but have often been doctored.”
Volunteering for Parent Gym has honestly given me far more than I feel I have given in return- I’ve met a bunch of wonderful parents, made a whole new circle of friends with the other coaches, and have got to know a wonderful organisation.
